Two 17 yr. old teens were caught Monday after detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office saw them with a third person near Bank of America, 1000 N. Federal Hwy. in Pompano Beach. The third person got away, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives set up surveillance after at least five similar robberies were reported in Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach since December, the sheriff’s office said.
The robberies typically involved two armed suspects walking up to people at ATMs, the sheriff’s office said. They would demand cash, then flee. Video from an ATM security camera released Wednesday shows the two, wearing hoodies, sneaking up behind a man at a Wells Fargo on Jan. 15.
Once in custody, the two admitted to detectives they had robbed people at banks in Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach, the sheriff’s office said. The Sun Sentinel is not identifying the 17-year-olds because of their age and the nature of the charges. Authorities ask that anyone who has more information regarding these robberies contact sheriff’s office detectives at 954-321-4270.
